Step into the shadows of Old Fort Erie for a thrilling evening of ghost stories, local legends and Halloween traditions.
Explore Canada’s bloodiest battlefield by lantern light, hear tales of Captain Kingsley’s ghost, sip traditional wassail by the fire and cap off the night with the burning of a Guy Fawkes effigy at 8:30 p.m.
Tours run approximately 30 minutes and are suitable for all ages. Dress for the weather, as portions of the experience take place outdoors. Snacks and hot and cold beverages will be available for purchase at the Old Fort Erie Welcome Centre.

Canada's Bloodiest Battlefield After Dark
Located along the Niagara River, Old Fort Erie was the site of some of the fiercest fighting of the War of 1812. By day, it tells the story of Canada’s past. By night, its history takes on a more mysterious character as centuries-old stories and local legends come to life.
Haunting tales from the Fort
Among Old Fort Erie’s most enduring ghost stories is the historically documented “no heads, no hands” tale. During the British assault on the fort in 1814, two American soldiers suffered gruesome injuries in the chaos of battle.
For more than 200 years, visitors and staff have reported sightings of the two soldiers wandering the grounds after dark, one with no head and the other with no hands.
Captain Kingsley’s haunted bed
Captain Kingsley of the King’s 8th Regiment of Foot spent his final months confined to the Officers’ Quarters while suffering from severe illness.
Following his death, many have claimed his spirit remains. Visitors and staff have reported hearing unexplained footsteps, seeing doors and windows move on their own, and finding his bed disturbed. During your tour, you’ll visit the Officers’ Quarters and see Captain Kingsley’s original bed for yourself.
